Cologne’s world-famous Carnival celebration (aka Köln Karneval) annually attracts around 1 million visitors to this German city. After seeing how other events like Oktoberfest can affect traffic and searches, the folks at Chip.de asked the Pornhub Statisticians to keep an eye on data related to Karneval.
We found that in the week surrounding the celebration, searches containing Karneval and Carnival increased significantly, peaking at 798% above daily average on February 6, 2016.
Our statisticians also scanned our search data to find terms that increased over the Karneval period. Many were related to wearing costumes such as “uniform german” (up 2023%), “catsuit” (848%), “costume” (312%) and “cosplay” (194%).
We also checked to see if traffic in Cologne changed significantly, but found it remained close to daily averages. Although many regular Pornhub users may have been busy celebrating, the influx of visitors to the region could have compensated for any traffic losses. The slight 3% increase in mobile traffic we saw would be indicative of increased visitor traffic.
