Austria and the Euro 2016

Heute.at contacted us to see how traffic to Pornhub was affected when Austria tuned into the Euro 2016 games. Of course Austrians were most interested in the games in which Austria was playing, with a drop of nearly 30% during Match 36 on June 22 against Iceland. There was an equal amount of interest in Match 34 between Hungary and Portugal, similar to the 28% drop for Match 24 when Portugal played Austria.

The following chart illustrates the traffic change in Austria during each match. Traffic changes that are plus or minus 2% would be similar to normal fluctuations, so they can’t be specifically tied to the game.

Our statisticians also looked at hourly traffic changes for the games in which Austria played, and compared Austria’s traffic to that of the opposing country. During the most recent match, Austria’s traffic dropped as much as 48%, compared to only 31% in Iceland.

In the June 18 match against Portugal, traffic dropped as much as 33% in both Austria and Portugal, the recovered in nearly the exact same time to reach over 10% above average in the hours following the match.

During the June 14 match, traffic dropped more in Hungary compared to Austria. Hungary dropped 31% compared to a lower of 17% in Austria. After the match ended, Austria’s traffic jumped 21% above daily average for that time of day.

We often find that searches for a particular type of porn will go up when people have that on their mind. Our statisticians compared searches relating to “football” and “soccer” on match days versus the average level of those searches prior to when the Euro 2016 began. We found that Austrians searched as much as 127% more for these terms. The following charts shows the increase on each match day. Grey bars indicate days on which Austria played.
