It’s been 35 years since Nintendo released the original Super Mario Bros. game, which revitalized the home gaming industry and revolutionized the way we play games. Mario and his friends (and foes) have remained a part of our collective culture ever since, with a continuous flow of new games for each generation of console and video game players.

If you follow the Pornhub Insights blog, you already know that video games are some of our most popular searches, with thousands of porn parodies and fan created content available to stream. In Pornhub’s 2019 Year in Review, we found that “Super Mario” ranked as the 4th most popular game character search, increasing 96% since 2018. Nintendo’s “Zelda” took the number one spot.

Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center

World Sexual Health Day is celebrated annually on September 4th, in an effort to raise awareness of the social and cultural taboos associated with sexuality and to promote positive sexual health. This year, the Pornhub Insights team will be taking a closer look at our own free resource for information about sexuality, health and relationships: The Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center.

The Sexual Wellness Center is directed by Dr. Laurie Betito, a noted broadcaster, author, therapist and speaker. She is joined by numerous contributors, each with their own expertise and knowledge to share. Since launching in 2017, more than 40 million people have visited Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center for help and information on a wide variety of topics.

Zoom Down, Porn Up!

On August 24th, popular video conferencing service Zoom experienced a major outage between 8am and 2pm. Across much of the United Kingdom and the East Coast of the United States, thousands of people were unable to connect to their business calls, online classes and yoga sessions.

While some people simply switched to a different video service for the day, Daily Caller asked us if many others used the downtime to visit Pornhub. And it turns out they did!

Traffic across the United Kingdom increased by as much at 5.6% at 11am, and the East Coast of the U.S. by 6.2%. When you consider that the U.S. and U.K. make up nearly half of Pornhub’s daily traffic, that represents a major shift in mid-day porn viewership.

Miley Cyrus Searches

Miley Cyrus recently appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast. In the interview, Miley opened up about a ton of things, including her previous relationships and exploring her sexuality.

CinemaBlend reached out to see if it had any effect on Pornhub searches. Our statisticians found that the in the days following the podcast, Miley Cyrus searches increased by 138%.

In Pornhub’s 2019 Year in Review, our statisticians found that Miley Cyrus was the 10th most searched celebrity on Pornhub, racking up just shy of 5 million searches for the year. On August 11th of 2019, the day that Miley allegedly split from Liam Hemsworth, her searches spiked by 102% – do Pornhub users love a single lady?

Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper also peaked Pornhub user’s interest with more than 1500 searches for her name in the days following the interview.

Cardi B ‘WAP’ Searches

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s tantalizing new single and video ‘WAP’ hit the internet on August 7th, quickly racking up 50 million YouTube views in the first 48 hours.

Interest in the artists flowed over to Pornhub, where searches for Cardi B grew by 235% and Megan Thee Stallion by 210% compared to their average daily searches.

Kylie Jenner was one of several stars making a cameo in the video, with her searches growing 130% above average on August 9th.

In Pornhub’s 2019 Year in Review, Cardi B was the 3rd most searched celebrity (after Kim Kardashian), while Kylie Jenner came in 8th for the year.
