On Sunday, October 9th the second 2016 Presidential Debate took place. Just a few weeks earlier, the first Presidential Debate broke several TV viewership records, but this second debate saw a 20% audience reduction to just 66.5 million. Our friends at ATTN checked in to see how the debate may have affected traffic to Pornhub. Interestingly, Pornhub’s usual Sunday night traffic dropped slightly more during the second debate, indicating that porn fans were more interested in seeing their potential presidents duke it out live.
U.K. Gay Searches and the British Chav
In a recent edition of Pornhub Insights, we looked at the most popular gay searches across the United States. So our friends at Metro UK asked us to look specifically at gay searches in the United Kingdom, along with the popular fetish of British Chav porn.
Miss Universe Alicia Machado Searches
After debate, former Miss Universe becomes Pornhub’s most searched for person.
On September 26th, over 80 million people tuned in to watch the first Presidential Debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. At one point Mrs. Clinton called out Trump for his “Miss Piggy” remarks about former Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado, which he made in response to her post-pageant weight gain.
In the days following the debate, media was awash with stories about Alicia Machado and her history. Although she did pose nude for Playboy, it was also rumored that she had appeared in porn videos. Even Mr. Trump suggested via Twitter that people go “check out sex tape” for themselves.
Our friends at Vocative checked in to see if the rumour was enough to drive people to Pornhub. On September 28th, searches for Alicia Machado skyrocketed by 3029%, making her the most searched for person, and the 5th most popular search term on Pornhub that day.
Our statisticians also found a 3% increase in views of the “BBW” category on September 28th, although that may just be a coincidence.
Trump vs Clinton Presidential Debate Traffic
On September 26th Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off for their first presidential debate. Up to now, the 2016 election cycled has played out much like a reality TV show, but with so much at stake over 80 million people tuned from 9pm to 10:30pm ET to see how the two remaining contestants met their latest challenge. Live events often cause changes to Pornhub’s traffic, so our friends at Huffington Post reached out to see if the debate followed suit.

Southeastern Conference College Towns
In this edition of Insights, we’ve joined with our friends at Bustle to see what effect students at various Southeastern Conference universities have on Pornhub usage in each city. To do so, our statisticians compared Pornhub usage in the two weeks before school starts, to usage immediately after the new semester begins. The time periods have been adjusted to match the dates for each university.
