Hair and health
Q: I have a question about shaving the vaginal area. I have always been under the impression that you must have some hair down there to keep the vagina clean and protected from bacteria. But now shaving everything off seems to the thing. Is it ok to shave everywhere?
A: There must be a reason why humans were created with pubic hair. However, I have not found any evidence to suggest that the absence of pubic hair causes bacteria to get into the vagina. Many, many women today take it all off. The only thing is that when you shave or wax your pubic area, you are more susceptible to ingrown hairs which could cause an infection on the skin and can be painful. As far as cleanliness goes, the vagina is a self cleaning organ. Some people just prefer the look of a clean shaven vulva, whereas others don’t enjoy getting pubic hair in their mouth when they are performing oral sex.
Age differences
Q: I am a 24 year old male and I like this girl who is 18. Is that a good age difference?
A: Considering the girl you are interested in is of legal age, I don’t see a problem with this. Age differences become a problem when you are at completely different stages of life and you find you have little in common. If she is interested in you and you in her and you seem to find common ground, then I don’t see an issue.
Solo time
Q: Is it weird that my partner never masturbates?
A: It’s not weird, but it is somewhat unusual. Over 90% of men masturbate at least some time, and as for women, the number is closer to 60% (statistics vary depending on what study you are looking for). So not everyone does it. Some people have grown up with negative messages about masturbation and may feel uneasy about doing it. Others may not feel the need to. Masturbation is a healthy act, which allows you to get to know your body, your likes and dislikes, and can relieve stress, or be a substitute when your partner is not available.
