Why We Updated Our Algorithm
We updated our content surfacing algorithm to create a fairer, more engaging experience for both users and creators, helping viewers connect with content they love and giving all creators more opportunities to grow. Previously, our homepage featured just 60 videos each day, many of them months old, making it difficult for both established and emerging Models to get your latest work in front of fans.
After listening to your feedback and analyzing industry trends, we recognized the need for a smarter approach, one that surfaces fresh, diverse content and gives everyone a chance to shine. Our annual Year In Review report, which provides a deep look into user behavior and trends, shows that viewers often seek out performers who resemble their own cultural or ethnic backgrounds. For example, in 2024, Argentina’s top search terms were “argentina,” “argentina casero” (homemade), and “culonas” (big ass), with local performer Meg Vicious among the top-searched Pornstars. This highlights the importance of surfacing content that resonates with local audiences.
As Model Sweetie Fox puts it:
“The system has become fairer to Models of all levels and ranks. Now, even old videos are included in recommendations and gain more views. There’s no longer a need to strive to get on the hotlist, where only a limited amount of content was published.”
Now, the pressure to go viral in our “hottest videos” section is gone. While viral moments can bring short-term exposure, true long-term success comes from building a loyal, engaged audience through consistent, quality content.
New: Personalized Homepages for Every User
With our current algorithm, we’ve completely reimagined how videos are surfaced on Pornhub. Each user’s homepage is tailored to their preferences, watch history and our recommendations, meaning no logged-in user sees the same version of the homepage anymore. The homepage now functions much like a “For You Page” (FYP) as seen on other major content platforms. This personalization ensures that your videos are being shown to audiences who are most likely to engage with them.
Instead of featuring a select number of videos, we now showcase hundreds of fresh and popular uploads every day taking factors like geolocation into account to ensure viewers see content that’s relevant to their interests and country. This means your content has a greater chance of being discovered.
As Comatozze shared:
“From a user's perspective, the homepage now looks different. Recommendations have become more personalized. This is a significant improvement, and we love it.”
Importantly, there are no caps on how many views your videos can get. With the right combination of effective and accurate metadata and a striking video thumbnail, your content can continue to gain traction and reach millions of viewers. For example, this video from Girthmasterr reached just under 10 million views demonstrating that the new system rewards quality and discoverability, not just placement. - Homepage views increased by 6.7% and sessions viewing the homepage are up by 7.7%. More users are exploring the homepage, meaning your videos have more opportunities to be discovered.
- Homepage bounce rate dropped by 18%, showing that visitors are finding content that interests them and sticking around longer.
- Video views from homepage sessions are up by 4%, which means more users are not just browsing, they’re clicking through and watching your videos.
