They probably buy the clips, then upload them to pornhub so they don't have to keep them on their computer or so they can watch their videos on all of their devices. They keep them private because technically uploading full porn videos for the whole world to see for free is illegal. Maybe they don't want to risk some random copyright claim that might let loved ones know what porn their watching.
