Maybe you’ll see a mate, maybe you’ll find one accidentally. But I’ll guarantee you that the checks on average will be better moves than pushing your a pawn one square (although that move certainly wasn’t bad by any means, you pushed a passed pawn, after all.) So yeah, checks, captures, attacks. 4. Do a shit-ton of puzzles. Lichess has an infinte amount of puzzles and with an account you can even personalize them. 1. Learn openings. In this game, you’re playing the Petrov. You don’t defend your e5 pawn but instead counter-attacck white’s e4 pawn. At your level, knowing the first five moves of any opening is probably gonna get you a winning position and a lot of elo. You can find videos on the opening here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8X6f8rBiVA&t=7s Personally, I don’t recommend the Petrov to beginners. Learn the Queen’s Gambit or the Scotch with white stead. The linked channel has videos
