New York City’s 2019 Gay Pride Parade took place on June 30th. Not only was the parade attended by millions, more than 150,000 people took part in the parade procession. So naturally when Gay Star News asked if the New York celebrations had an effect on Pornhub’s traffic, our statisticians were able to see some significant results in our Analytics data.
Traffic changes were broken down by visitors who viewed gay (male) (NSFW) oriented video pages, and those viewing non-gay videos. At noon when the parade began, traffic to gay pages was down by -17% and non-gay traffic was down by -5% when compared to an average day.
In our Top 20 Cities Insights we revealed that New York City is Pornhub’s number one traffic source, so those numbers both reflect a massive fluctuation in visits.
We found it interesting that traffic viewing gay videos was much higher than average in the early morning, by as much as +11% at 8am. This may have been due to a large increase in gay people visiting New York for the festivities.
Our statisticians looked back a bit further, and found that views of gay (male) videos in New York had already increased significantly over the preceding week by an average of +15% and a peak of +18.4% on June 29th.
Searches relating to Gay Pride also saw big increases on June 30th in New York City. For example, “pride parade” was up +1548% and “pride” was up +1228%.
