International “Weed Day” comes around ever April 20th, and is more commonly referred to as “4/20”. In many parts of the world, people get together and light up to show their support for marijuana legalization, or to simply light up and show support for having a good time.
At the request of High Times, we soon discovered that those good times make their way over to Pornhub as well, where searches for marijuana related terms get higher — waaaaay higher maaan. On 4/20, searches containing the term “420” went up 564% above average daily levels, “weed” searches went up 710% and “marijuana” went up 817%.
Men searched for marijuana related terms 464% more than usual, and women 365%. Searches were higher among all age groups, especially 18 to 24 year olds, who lit up Pornhub’s search bar 552% more, followed by 414% for 25 to 34 year olds, and 351% for 35 to 44. While 45 to 64 year old were less than 200% higher, those over 65 were 275% more interested in weed on 4/20.
Across the United States, searches for all marijuana related terms were up an average of 645%. Wyoming was highest of all, up by 773%, followed by 764% in Vermont, South Dakota and Montana. Even less-high states were still pretty high on 4/20, including a 501% in searches in Mississippi, 535% in Alabama and 557% in Delaware.
The most popular related search on 4/20 is indeed “420”, followed by “weed”, “smoking weed” and “high on weed”.
