Fantasy plays a big role in pornography. People are not simply looking for naked flesh, they’re interested in the stories that lead to each sexual encounter. Like film and television studios, the porn industry spends millions each year to design elaborate scenes that will bring viewers into the story, and create an emotional attachment with the characters on screen. It’s only natural that fans will want to see their favorite movie characters involved in sexual scenarios, so super hero porn parodies are a popular adult film genre.
The most recent super hero movie to hit theaters on August 5th was Suicide Squad. Our friends at Cinema Blend asked us if the release had any effect on Pornhub searches. After Suicide Squad broke many opening weekend records, we soon discovered that it also resulted in a 1072% search increase on Pornhub.
DECEMBER 2016 UPDATE:
Harley Quinn continues to be one of the most searched for movie characters of 2016. Her biggest search increases over her daily average were 310% on August 6th, and 239% on Halloween.
Currently, the most popular super hero related search on Pornhub is “Harley Quinn”, a lead character from Suicide Squad. Consistently popular searches include “Batman”, “Captain America”, “Spider Man” and “Superman”, all of which have had recent porn parodies.
Men are 122% more likely to search for super hero parodies, and the 18 to 24 age group is 74% more likely to search when compared to all other age groups. Interest in super hero porn falls as the age of Pornhub visitors increases.
Pornhub visitors using smartphones are 21% more likely to search for super heroes compared to desktop users. Our statisticians also found that users of Android devices are 32% more likely to search when compared to their Apple iOS counterparts. The type of super heroes searched for also differ by device type. On Android, searches for “wolverine” are 83% more popular, whereas “thor” is 45% more popular on Apple based devices.
To see how the increase in Suicide Squad searches compare to other porn parodies, our statisticians looked at how related searches changed around the release of other recent super hero movies. When Batman versus Superman was released on March 25, 2016 we saw a peak 206% increase in “superman” searches and a 102% increase in “batman” searches.
The latest Captain America movie was released on May 6, 2016 and resulted in an 852% increase above search averages by May 18.
When Deadpool was released on February 12, 2016 there was a 304% increase in searches just a few days later on February 14.
Avengers Age of Ultron was released on May 1, 2015 and searches containing “avengers” increased 176% above average by May 3.
