Sanremo Festival 2024 Insights

From February 6 to 10, 2024, the 74th edition of the music festival Sanremo took place in Italy. Since 2017, our statisticians have been analyzing traffic fluctuations during the festival. And when Fanpange.it asked us about this edition, our statisticians were happy to oblige. This year, we looked at the changes in traffic on the first and last night of this year’s festival, the 5th consecutive edition hosted by Amadeus.

During the first night of the festival, which is held in the Italian region of Liguria, traffic suddenly dropped after the beginning of the show. The most significant drop occurred at 22:00, during Fiorello’s performance outside the Theatre Ariston, showing –12.2% in Italy, while Liguria experienced a –15.1% drop.

Later, traffic began rising again around midnight compared to an average day. Once the festival was over, traffic reached its peak hour at 02:00, with +29% higher traffic in Liguria and +8.2% in Italy. By 03:00, it was down –5.4% in Liguria, but still up +4% in Italy.

During our Sanremo Insights last year, the drops in traffic were higher in both Italy and Liguria. Even though more people watched the festival this year than they did in 2023, it seems like they were less captivated based on how many viewers kept visiting Pornhub during the show.

After they announced the winner of the festival on the night of February 10, traffic to Pornhub soared. In Italy, traffic jumped +26.9%. In Liguria, traffic almost doubled that, with a +41.7% increase. It seems people couldn’t wait until the show was over so they could rush back to their favorite black and orange website. Interestingly, this year’s winning song was “La Noia” which translates to “boredom” in English, sung by Angelina Mango.

Looking at the individual Italian regions, we can see the ones that experienced the largest drops were Abruzzo at -15.2%, Aosta Valley at -12.9%, and Tuscany at-12.3%. Apparently, the least interested in the show were from Calabria with only a -2.3%, Veneto at -1.9%, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia with -0.6%.

We hope you enjoyed this year’s edition of the Sanremo Festival Insights!
