On November 12, Conor McGregor became the first man to hold two Ultimate Fighting Championship belts at the same time after he beat Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden. The fight was the first in New York City after the state legalized the sport. The fight lasted just two rounds.
Pornhub Traffic was down -6% in New York at the beginning of the 7pm Preliminary Show which aired on cable TV. After increasing back to normal levels around 9pm, it dropped again by -5% as the Pay Per View event started. The Main Fight took place shortly after 1am, after which traffic increased by 3% in New York and 2% in the United States.
The day after the fight, searches related to the fight increased significantly. “MMA” and “Mixed Martial Art” searches were up +321%, and searches containing “UFC” were up +618%. Women’s fighter “Miesha Tate” saw searches increase by +1068%. Although she lost to her former protegee, she announced her retirement after the fight. At least as far as Pornhub user’s were concerned, she went out on a high note.
