Easter is the most important of the Christian holidays in that it commemorates Christ dying then subsequently resurrecting for the saving and forgiveness of all mankind. No small feat! Here at Pornhub however, our research is generally oriented towards the types of resurrections that take place in our viewer’s pants, but today’s post happily marries the two. The Pornhub statisticians made like kids on Easter morning and searched high and low to bring you the data that shows how people all over the world get down with Pornhub on this highest of holidays, so let’s hop to it!
A DIFFERENT KIND OF EASTER EGG HUNT
As we’ve seen before over Christmas and during St. Patrick’s Day, Pornhub viewers are a festive bunch when it comes to top seasonal search terms. According to the data we collected from 2014’s spring holiday weekend, Easter is no different. Over the course of Easter weekend last year, terms like ‘easter,’ ‘easter bunny’ and ‘bunny costume’ were among the most popular holiday-holiday themed searches, followed by slightly more sinful terms like ‘church’ and ‘christian’. All this with no reports of spontaneous blindness or hairy palms from our dedicated viewer base so take that, bible!
In terms of the Easter weekend’s top gaining terms, some trends were definitely observed. For starters, searches containing ‘easter’ were up an astounding 2130% in popularity over the holiday and up 845% for searches containing the word ‘bunny’. Combine the two terms and you’ve got ‘easter bunny’ which itself as a search term was up a whopping 3240%. Pornhub viewers didn’t put all of their eggs into these baskets alone though, as again, lots of religious themed searches made the cut as well, namely ‘amateur church sex,’ ‘girl in church’ and ‘lesbian church ladies’ up 2130%, 1820% and 530% respectively. No Catholic guilt here, folks!
HOPS IN TRAFFIC
People celebrate the zombification of Jesus in a whole bunch of different ways. Some tell their kids that a giant costumed rabbit has broken into their home in the middle of the night and hidden chocolate throughout the house which they are in turn encouraged to search for. Others spend the day with family, attending mass and feasting on lamb. Our personal favorite is when the parishioners of Pornhub come together to cause interesting traffic patterns as a result of what they get up to on the best site in the world during certain holidays. Below is a chart illustrating another way that Easter interrupted the day to day happenings on Pornhub, with searches containing the word ‘easter’ shooting up by 48 times the daily average on April 20th of last year:
Last but not least is a more in depth look at how the Easter holiday affects traffic in the top 20 countries with the most visitors to Pornhub. Compared to end of year holidays like Christmas Eve which sees traffic drops of around 38% in the US and New Years Eve, when traffic drops by around 44% internationally, Easter overall only causes traffic to drop by around 11% on average, throughout the world. This definitely fluctuates from country to country, however, as noted in our 2014 Year in Review.
Topping off our list here is Romania where the most notable drops were observed on Good Friday as well as Easter Sunday and Monday, with an average 22% dip in traffic over the course of the holy weekend. Clearly Easter is a big national holiday for Romanians, who actually celebrate Orthodox Easter, which happened to line up with Catholic Easter last year. Drops of as much as 27% on Easter Sunday were noted in the home of the Vatican, Italy, whereas in the US, drops of only 3% on average were recorded. Over in India, a slight increase of 3% was observed over Easter weekend last year, though this makes sense in a country which is nearly 80% Hindu.
