For the third time in just 6 years, the Chicago Blackhawks have once again won the Stanley Cup. During one of the closest NHL finals of all time, Pornhub traffic was unsurprisingly quite affected during each of the respective games. As you’ve come to expect from us by now after our coverage of both the 2013 and 2014 Stanley Cup series, our devoted statisticians are back at it again today with a breakdown of the impressive traffic swings that occurred during this exciting series. We’ll begin with a general overview of how traffic was affected over the course of the six games. The chart below details the extent of traffic drops in the United States overall, within the State of Florida, in Tampa bay, in Illinois and in Chicago. At a glance, it’s clear that the most significant drops over the course of the series took place in Illinois, where traffic was down around 8% overall on average. During Game 6 however, the State of Florida displayed the largest drop recorded throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs, with traffic down there by 16% when the Tampa Bay Lightening were ultimately defeated.
Interestingly, traffic drops were much more significant in Tampa than in Chicago throughout the 6 games. Perhaps they knew deep down that the 2015 Cup belonged to the Blackhawks? Game 4 which tied up the series 2-2 caused the lowest drop in Illinois, whereas Game 5 on Saturday June 13th proved to quite minimally affect Pornhub traffic at all. Game 2 was also on a Saturday and showed relatively lower traffic drops as well, with the exception of Tampa where a 10% drop was recorded.
The chart above details hourly traffic fluctuations during Game 6 – the clinching game. As indicated here, traffic began to dip gradually over the course of the afternoon, with the exception of in Tampa where a slight 9% spike was noted at 6, where they were perhaps blowing off some of that pregame steam. Florida traffic was below average over the course of the entire evening, with a slight climb noted after the loss between 10 and 11. The most interesting climb was recorded in Tampa where, after their defeat, traffic rates rose up to 20% over average. We noticed a similar effect during last year’s final game, when traffic rates increased by 15% in New York after the Rangers lost to Los Angeles.
That’s a wrap on Pornhub’s 2015 Stanley Cup Coverage! Congratulations to the Blackhawks and for all of you Lightening fans who might still be reeling from the loss, Pornhub is here to help.
