Patriotic Porn – America vs Canada

For both Americans and Canadians, the beginning of July is a time for celebration with family, friends and neighbors. July 1st is Canada Day up North, and July 4th is Independence Day down South. In both countries, citizens show their national patriotism by enjoying the sunshine, drinking beer and stuffing lots and lots of hot wieners into buns. Our friends at Bustle asked if the abundance of national patriotism has an effect on each nation’s porn habits, and which country shows their stars, stripes or maple leafs more strongly?

Patriotic porn searches: America wins.

On July 1st, our statisticians found a 95% increase within Canada for all searches containing terms like “Canada” and “Canadian”. Nice show busy beavers. But on July 4th, Americans came just ahead of Canada, with a 98% increase in national searches containing terms like “United States”, “America” and “American”.

More people celebrating: America wins.

Of course this one depends on how you look at it. A bigger 13% drop in Pornhub traffic across the U.S. might indicate that more Americans were out showing their patriotism on July 4th, and were too busy for some independent time on Pornhub. From our perspective though, we’re glad that only 6% less Canadian visitors skipped coming to Pornhub on July 1st.

Vermont was the most patriotic American state with a 26% drop in Pornhub traffic, followed closely by New Mexico, Kansas, Idaho and Wyoming. While all states showed some drop in traffic, only 2% of folks in Virginia and Delaware were willing to give up Pornhub in lieu of national celebrations.

In Canada, the province of Manitoba had the highest 16% traffic drop on July 1st, followed by Newfoundland & Labrador and Saskatchewan at 13%. Ontario fell just below the national average at 5%, and British Columbia was down 3%.

We were somewhat surprised to see only a 2% traffic drop in the province of Quebec. That’s because July 1st is also known as “moving day” in Quebec, with most leases there expiring on the same day. That could leave many people too busy packing and unpacking to truly celebrate Canada’s national holiday. But many French Canadians celebrate their heritage a week earlier on St-Jean Baptiste day. So we checked traffic from Quebec on June 24th and found there was indeed a 6% drop in traffic. Bonne Saint-Jean!

Most patriotic search terms: Draw.

We took a look at what specific searches increased the most on Canada Day and Independence Day in their respective countries. Of course a 58975% increase for “july 4th” in the United States sounds astronomical, but it’s rarely searched for throughout the year. We did like some of America’s other booming searches like “patriotic” up 9700%, “fireworks” up 6475%, and “stars and stripes” up 3140%. Even searches for “bbq” went up 396% on July 4th.

Although “Canada Day” increased by 15877%, Canada’s searches on July 1st tend to be more centered around their fellow citizens, and we felt that really shows their national pride. Pornhub’s Northern visitors searched for “canadian babe” 951% more than the daily average, “canadian milf” 237% more, and even “canuck” 62% more.
