Guten Tag! For this latest edition of Pornhub Insights, our statisticians were tasked with digging through some more German stats. This time around, we were curious to see if there were any notable changes in user behavior during the annual Oktoberfest celebrations. This year, the festival took place from September 19th through October 4th, and we indeed noticed some considerable increases in certain types of searches on Pornhub, both in Germany as well as in a few other countries who seemingly also partook in the beer-fueled fun.
We’ll begin with some Deutschland-specific data. Over the course of the festival, we observed that searches for ‘Oktoberfest’ increased by an astonishing 441%, on average in Germany. A definite peak was observed during the second weekend of the festival, beginning on Friday the 25th, then peaking on Monday the 28th, after which they begin to dip back down. We’re wondering if this considerable spike in Oktoberfest-related searches on the 28th accounts for a sizable group of festival attendees who didn’t quite make it in to the office that fateful Monday, and were trying to relive some of the weekend’s magic on Pornhub.
We also noticed that some specific search terms shot up in popularity during Oktoberfest, in Germany. Specifically, searches for ‘schlampe,’ meaning ‘slut’ in German, were up a whole 392% in the country, as well as searches for national treasure Aische Pervers, (NSFW) the German porn star famous for partaking in lots of outdoor sex, including some at Oktoberfest. Other festive searches like beer/bier, sausage/wurst and lederhose were up 281%, 197% and 166% respectively.
On a metropolitan level, Munich experienced the highest increase in Oktoberfest searches during the span of the festival, with a a remarkable 517% rise. This is likely due to the fact that the festival originates and predominantly takes place in this city. Notable rises were also recorded in Hannover and Berlin at 496% and 486% respectively, where festivities also occur, though not on the same scale as in Munich.
Worldwide, searches for ‘dirndl,’ the traditional South-German dress worn by many frauleins during the festivities increased by a whopping 261% during Oktoberfest this year. Many Oktoberfest celebrations also include dirndl competitions, though we suspect that recaps of these events are not what is being searched for on Pornhub.
While Oktoberfest certainly originated in Germany, it is celebrated by many all over the world. In fact, between September 19th and October 4th, searches on Pornhub pertaining to the festival increased by a whole 317%.
Though the largest Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Germany reportedly take place in Canada, there was only a 95% increase in Oktoberfest searches observed in the country, during the festival. The largest increases were noticed in countries neighboring Germany, notably the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
