For today’s edition of Pornhub Insights, the statisticians have their sights set on Rwanda. We’ve teamed up with our friends over at IGIHE to bring you everything from which search terms are most popular among Rwandans to how site traffic is affected in the country on major holidays. This is our first study in Africa since our post on South Africa, so without any further ado let’s get started!
We’ll begin with some quick stats on Rwanda’s Pornhub users. What stands out immediately is the relatively high proportion of female viewers, which at 27% is a whole 3 percentage points above the 24% worldwide average. We noticed this same figure in countries like Spain and Finland. Interestingly, Rwanda also has the highest proportion of female politicians in the world, at an impressive 64%.
Rwanda also takes a lead when it comes to their average session duration. In our 2014 Year in Review, we noted that on an international level, sessions tend to last around 9 minutes and 16 seconds. In Rwanda, visits span over 11 minutes, on average. The country follows suit with the likes of the United Kingdom and Mexico with regards to their least and most popular days for visiting the site, being Sunday and Friday respectively. Rwanda is credited as being one of the cleanest countries in the world due to its mandatory community cleaning day which takes place on the last Saturday of every month. As such we thought that Saturdays would take more of a hit, but alas. We’ll move on with a look at Rwanda’s top searched terms.
In most countries we’ve studied to date, we have noticed that the country in question’s own nationality tends to be the top searched term there. Italy and Greece are good examples of this trend. In this case, ‘Rwanda’ only comes in at 11th place, preceded by 2 other countries on the list namely ‘Uganda’ at 6th place and ‘Congo’ at 10th. ‘Nigerian’ enters the list a little lower down at 18th place. As such, it appears that Rwandans are more interested in porn featuring their neighbors than their own country-folk. The top searched term in the country is ‘black’ which coincides with ‘Ebony’ being the most viewed category in the land, as we saw in the previous chart. On to Rwanda’s top searched porn stars.
Media queen Kim K claims the top spot here in a big way, followed by ebony babe Jada Fire (NSFW) in at second. Everyone’s favorite MILF Lisa Ann (NSFW) takes third place, trailed by the man with the biggest member, Mandingo (NSFW) in at 4th. If we jump back a chart and look again at Rwanda’s top searched terms, you’ll notice that ‘squirt’ claimed the second spot which likely explains why famed water sport enthusiast Cytheria (NSFW) enters the list here at a respectable 11th place. Let’s take a look at how certain holidays tend to affect traffic in the country
New Year’s Eve caused the most significant drop in traffic over the course of the year, with rates dropping nearly 35% below average. We’ve seen this figure climb up to the 70% range on December 31st in countries like Germany and the Netherlands, however. Resurrections of another type were being celebrated here on Good Friday as made evident by the 21% spike in traffic observed on the holiday, which is topped only by the near 23% increase in action noted on Independence Day. We’ll move on with some data examining which types of devices Rwandans most often use to access Pornhub.
With just 4 percentage points between them, Rwanda’s smartphone-based traffic proportions nearly match up with those we have observed on an international level. The most notable difference here lies with tablet traffic shares. Worldwide, this accounts for 11% of traffic, whereas in Rwanda this figure drops to just 6%. We’ve noticed similar traffic share breakdowns in Brazil, India and Romania. We’ll end here with a look at Rwanda’s age demographics.
Worldwide, we have found that the average age of a Pornhub user is 35 years. Rwanda’s is a little younger at 33 years of age, which is due to their higher proportions of millennial-aged users. Overall, users aged 18-34 account for about 60% of users worldwide but here that number climbs to 64%. Proportionally speaking, Rwanda also has a younger than average population which also contributes to these figures.
