Gay Searches in the United States

As part of a special collaboration with Daily Dot, Pornhub Insights is looking into the popularity of gay porn (nsfw) for the first time, beginning with Americans who account for nearly 40% of Pornhub’s 60 million daily visitors. The proportion of visitors viewing Pornhub’s gay male content in the United States has grown 45% from 2012 to 2016. As of May 2016, over 3% of all U.S. Pornhub visitors go directly to our gay male section of the site.

These numbers exclude the large number of lesbian videos viewed on Pornhub, as those are most often associated with straight visitors. Specifically, this study will look at people viewing Pornhub’s gay male content, where in the U.S. they visit from, and what searches and categories are the most popular.

Pornhub & Snowzilla

From January 22nd to 24th, 2016 the mighty Snowzilla – aka Winter Storm Jonas – hit the East Coast of the United States with a vengeance, leaving major cities in a state of virtual shut-down. With nowhere to go, and plenty of time on their hands, people chose to put their hands to good use and headed to Pornhub – much more than usual. Coming of Age: Millennials

The Millennial generation, members of which are also sometimes referred to as Echo Boomers, consists of the demographic cohort born roughly between the years 1982 and 2000. Through a special collaboration with our friends over at Mic.com, we’re taking a look at the particular way that Pornhub’s 18-34 users interact with the largest adult site in the world. Touted by some as the most tech savvy generation to date, millennials are generally known for being glued to their phones and sharing all aspects of their lives on social media. Thanks in part to the open and rapid access to information afforded to this group by the web in their formative years, the sense of media awareness and general world views of these 18-34 year-olds truly sets them apart from previous generations in the way that they consume online. Empire State of Porn: NY searches on Pornhub

The state of New York ranks 3rd after California and Texas in terms of most visitors to Pornhub within the United States. As we saw in our 2014 Year in Review, the US are responsible for the lion’s share of overall traffic to Pornhub, so suffice it to say that site users in NY represent a significant portion of visits to the biggest adult site in the world. As a part of a special collaboration with Thrillist NY, the Pornhub statisticians are taking a look at top searches on Pornhub within the Empire State. Pornhub & Storm Juno

Like a disappointing Tinder match, the Blizzard of 2015 promised to deliver big inches but when it came time for the big event, the whole affair proved to be rather anticlimactic. Throughout New England, huge snowfall predictions were being made: Boston was expecting somewhere in the ballpark of 2 to 3 feet of snow, New York 1.5 to 2 feet, and Philadelphia more than a foot. A state of emergency was officially declared in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, southern New York and Rhode Island and a disaster emergency proclamation was signed in Pennsylvania. Schools, government services and public transit were shut down and curfews were put into effect. In other words, Mother Nature was set to bukkake the northeast.

As a part of a special collaboration with Gizmodo, we’ve got the dirt on the longest and shortest comings and goings on the world’s biggest porn site. The following infographic allows you to click through and see how long on average Porhub users around the world spend on the site by country and US state, as well as by city again on both the international and individual state levels. The data used was compiled over the Fall of 2014.
